Incontro con Sara Gama

On Monday, March 23rd, in collaboration with the Italian Cultural Institute of Washington, the Department of Italian Studies hosted Sara Gama, former professional soccer player. Sara is the former captain of the Italian National Women’s Team and the Serie A club Juventus. She now serves as Chief of the Italian Women’s National Team Delegation and Member of the Italian Federation Governing body. Sara offered insight into the history of Italian Women’s soccer, which until relatively recently received limited institutional support. Despite ongoing challenges, such as disparities in funding, media coverage, and professional opportunities, women’s soccer is gaining momentum. Viewership is increasing, youth participation is expanding, and players are gradually gaining greater recognition and more equitable treatment within the sport. We truly appreciated Sara’s remarks and we thank our students for joining.
