A NEW MAP: The Poetry of Migrant Writers in Italy

A New Map At the beginning of the 1990s new poetic voices emerged in Italian literature, thanks to the works of foreign authors who chose our language as their medium of creative expression. This phenomenon, which has generated a revolution in our national literature, both linguistic and thematic, will be addressed by Mia Lecomte (Italian-French poet and critic) and Candelaria Romero (italophone Argentinian poet), with examples from their collections of poems. Nicoletta Pireddu (Professor of Italian at Georgetown University) will place the italophone poetry of migration in the context of Italian contemporary literature.

A presentation of Compagnia delle Poete will follow. This is a theatrical group including exclusively foreign and Italo-foreign italophone women poets, who have in common a story of migration and transnationality. Marina Young, actress, will interpret the poems in English.

Violinist Diana Le Grande Mollaioli will provide a musical atmosphere for the poetry reading.
