Many congratulations to Professors Melucci and Hipwell on receiving one of the four 2014 Open Track Grants from ITEL (The Initiative on Technology-Enhanced Learning).

Their project will focus on creating a new hybrid format for the third semester Italian language course, Intensive Advanced Italian I.

With the funding received from ITEL the professors will create a hybrid format for Intensive Advanced Italian I consisting of both online and face-to-face instruction. This hybrid course will not only meet the same curriculum requirements and learning goals as the traditional course offered by the Department, but it will also reflect new teaching methodologies that enhance student learning. The professors will shift two contact hours of language instruction to the online format through the use of Technology Enhanced Language Learning, creating new activities using synchronous and asynchronous computer-mediated communication.
